Are you a budding shutterbug or a professional lensman? Are you 18 years old and above? Do you have photos with shadows on them? Then LEE Jeans Philippines invites you to their SHADOW PLAY online photography contest. Capture and share original photos with a camera of your choice (i.e. mobile phone or SLR cameras) and interpret through photography the diverse and dynamic city scenes via the shadows they create—from the basic shadows formed during sunrise or sunset, shadows of children playing, shadows created by trees or houses to electricity poles or even any object due to non-natural light sources. Go ahead and play with the shadows in their photographs and each photographs must be captioned with a maximum of 10 words.
A LEE Jeans Philippines executive explains the mechanics of the Shadowplay contest.

Participants can upload as many as three photo entries (800 x 600 pixels, 72 dpi, JPEG format) to the LEE microsite,
Each week, LEE Jeans Philippines will be announcing four winners based on the number of votes in the LEE microsite and its artistic merits—how the shadow was captured, with subtle or no reference to the object forming the shadow.

LEE Jeans Philippines executives.
Only ORIGINAL photo entries are allowed (photo manipulation such as the use of Adobe Photoshop or any similar software is not allowed) and will be shortlisted weekly based on the top number of votes in the LEE microsite, and then judges will choose the winning photos from the shortlist based exclusively on artistic merit.
Don’t worry though because the auto-likes and bots entry likes aren’t allowed too. And this isn’t all about getting the most number of likes—it’ll only be about 25% of your score anyway. Here are the criteria for judging:
Composition and unique subject matter 25%
Storytelling 25%
Lighting/use of shadows 25%
Votes 25%
Total: 100%

Three of the four weekly winners will each get Php 1, 500 worth of LEE Gift Certificates and one major weekly winner gets a Limited Edition LEE x Sardinia Lomography camera. Shortlisted photos who did not win in a particular week can still get picked in succeeding weeks if it receives majority of votes in the microsite.

Weekly winners are then qualified to join the final judging for the grand winner. Three runners-up will each get a LEE x Manila Fixed Gear bike designed by a collaboration team headed by visual artist Kiko Escora, and the Grand Prize winner gets a whopping USD $2,000! Winning photos will also be uploaded on LEE’s LED Billboard on EDSA.

You’ll definitely feel like on top of the world with such huge prizes at stake! Not to mention, imagine your photographs on LED billboard? So what are you waiting for? Don’t miss this chance to win fab prizes! Go through the city, play with shadows, get your cameras ready, join this contest and tell a little bit about your snapshot. Hurry and upload your entries now. Contest will run from August 1 to 31, 2012 only! Grand Prize winner will be declared on September 1, 2012.

Blogged: SM Mall’s iButterfly—An Augmented Reality Platform for SM Customers

The first time I heard of this iButterfly was during Easter of this year. It was a promotion for SM Cyberzone in selected SM stores such as SM Cubao if I’m not mistaken. But I have not given it a second look. It was only last May 5, 2012 at SM North Edsa The Block during its launch that I came to understand what it was all about.

iButterfly was first used in Japan in 2010 in key cities such as Tokyo, Okinawa and Kyoto. It is a fun entertaining mobile information and couponing platform.
iButterfly is a proprietary augmented reality platform that will engage SM customers thru a fun interactive way. In this medium, the malls can give incentives, push promotions and create a totally unique experience among its customers or mall goers. iButterfly is an initiative that aims to boost customers’ loyalty.

iButterfly works using motion sensors for catching butterflies using your Smartphone (iOS or Android/Google Play). It also makes use of Global Positioning System (GPS) in finding butterflies at a particular location.
Launched on May 5, 2012 until June 30, 2012, iButterfly is available in eight selected regional and premiere SM malls namely: SM North, SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, SM Cebu, SM Davao, SM Southmall, SM Fairview and SM Baguio.
This summer, iButterfly can help you score some prizes. Download the iButterfly asia app on iOS or Android/Google Play Smartphones for FREE! Better yet, visit Next, catch butterflies using the app while connected to the Internet. Just swipe and collect. Then, you can redeem prizes by presenting iButterflies at participating stores. Happy catching!

My Eat Bulaga Juan for All, All for Juan Experience

I grew up watching Eat Bulaga since my family had always been a fan of the said noontime show.  I remember I even auditioned for their Little Miss Philippines (a nationwide talent search for little girls back in the ‘80s).  It was just too bad that I didn’t made the cut, probably because I was too shy back then to show what talents I’ve got. But I had no regrets; I enjoyed the said audition just the same.
The Eat Bulaga staff arranges the props for the live broadcast.
So when the news had spread out among our neighbors that the staff of Eat Bulaga will be visiting our barangay for their Juan for All, All for Juan segment of the show and my family and relatives learned about it, they were elated.
Our street looked as if it was Fiesta (very festive indeed!)

My official entry to the contest...
On the day before the said visit, my Mom said she couldn’t sleep and an Aunt said she felt sad not being available on the day itself as her boss had asked her to report for office even if it’s on a Saturday.  Prior to the actual day of visit, we were interviewed and asked by the Eat Bulaga staff certain details about ourselves, like what do we do for a living, what are we going to do with the prize money if ever we were chosen among the entries…Then, a series of phone calls soon followed for validation of our entries…
People from all over flocked on our street to grasp a view.
A Suzuki motorcycle given to Elvie.
The day finally came and I could sense right away the adrenalin rush that fills the air on our street, with all the people across the street and all the other spectators. The winner turned out to be just a few houses away—a housemaid named Elvie, whose two children had to be confined at the Center for Mental Health while the youngest child had to be left back home in her hometown Iloilo.

Moi at the front line waving under the heat.
I felt she deserved the cash prize more than I do considering all the difficulties she had to face as she tries to support her kids. I am truly happy for her…Then came the segment in which a person had to step on a certain number carrying whatever it is that the Eat Bulaga hosts will be flashing on screen together with 10 empty plastic bottles. At first, I did not want to join because I’m not really up for it. But of course my relatives coaxed me into joining, so I had no other choice---I did join for the fun of it.

Glued as I had been to the television set, the minute host Joey de Leon said they needed women with 10 empty plastic bottles and a candle, I raced outside with my heart pumping and obviously panting…trying to catch my breath as I stood on violet colored number 121.  And there I stood along with other women under the scorching heat of the sun at noontime. In the end, a neighbor won P10, 000 in cash. Hmm, I did not win…although I got a consolation prize of P500. What is P500? It may sound like a change for many, but the thrill and the joy of joining was truly priceless. And in knowing that for every empty plastic bottle you donate as a barangay, more school chairs will be given to deserving schools as beneficiary.  It’s like a win and win situation: participant gets P500 + you’re able to help donate chairs to kids in need.

More people in line waiting under the heat.

Me with the Eat Bulaga flag...Happy despite the sun's heat.

After the Eat Bulaga staff and crew had left, I no longer wonder why the noontime show is the longest-running noontime show in the whole world…They treat everyone as family and most people grew up with them (like me) that they’ve become an institution in the television industry.

Purple Plum Fairy & Fashion Blendz' Contest Winners

Mea culpa, mea culpa. I am deeply sorry for posting the winners a bit late than we all had probably expected. I had been quite busy lately that I didn’t had the chance to actually sit down and go online. Aside from that, I had to meet up with our generous sponsor, Ms. Joanne Tuanquin, owner of Fashion Blendz because we had agreed early on that she’ll be the one to draw out the winners. Finally, we were able to arrange the draw last week. So who actually won the contest? Ms. Joanne Tuanquin picked out the winners. Watch the video below.

Here's the video:

Purple Plum Fairy and Fashion Blendz would like to extend our sincerest thanks to everyone who joined our mini giveaway. We hope you’ll continue to join in our future contests soon. Congratulations to all the three winners! You guys won two items each from Fashion Blendz. Winners will receive an email from Purple Plum Fairy with details on how they can receive their prizes. However, winners MUST email back within 72 hours from the time they received our email for some verification. Failure to do so might forfeit the said prizes.
